Adobe Air (codename Apollo) is a desktop container for webapps. It allows you to run applications on the desktop written as if they were webpages. You can use plain HTML+CSS+JS combo, Adobe Flash, or Adobe Flex.
It gives developers a webkit-based browser with some extra APIs, like system-wide drag-and-drop, filesystem access, windowing and even multiple screen support (among others).
